Fact Practice- Please encourage your child to practice their multiplication facts each night. It will benefit them greatly as we move forward in our math curriculum. I would encourage you to play different fact games with your child including Deck of Cards Games and Paper and Pencil Games. I will continue to use these games in the classroom to help motivate the students to learn their facts. They really enjoy playing them!
Reading- Third grade is a transition year. Students are not only learning how to read, but they are learning from what they read. This is important when reading with your child at home. Please encourage him/her to answer "fat" questions about their story. These are questions that are not "right there" in the story and require them to really think/ analyze the text. We will be continuously working on responding to what we read throughout the school year. Click here to view great question starters to use with your child.

Math Explanations- Students are expected to accurately solve and explain complex word problems throughout each math unit this year. Click here to see a step-by-step guide to writing a word problem explanation. I encourage the students to use this as a guide when explaining how they solved a problem.
Writing about what we read- We are continuously responding to reading through written responses. I encourage students to A.C.E their responses (Answer, Cite Evidence from the text, Explain their evidence). Click here to view a Written Response Recipe template. |
Sum Dog/Prodigy- Your child is signed up on SumDog & Prodigy. Please let me know if you need their login information. This is a learning website that reinforces math concepts. If you have internet access, encourage your child to sign in and play. They love it!

Volunteers are always welcome and very much appreciated in my classroom. However, due to state-wide restrictions, we are not allowed to have face-to-face volunteers this school year. I feel that parent involvement and support are one of the key components to a child's education. Please let me know if you are willing to help out outside our classroom this school year. There are several tasks that can be done from home and are just as helpful.
